What is the difference between soffit and fascia?
Fascia is the vertical board along the roof edge that your gutters attach to and that seals the roofline. Soffit is the horizontal underside of the eave that ventilates the attic and closes it off from pests. They work together and usually fail together.

Yes. Damaged or blocked soffit removes attic ventilation, which can trap moisture and contribute to ice damming and mould in Calgary winters. Gaps also let in birds and rodents. It is worth fixing promptly.
